Cystoscopy allows examination of the inside of the urethra and bladder with a high-definition optic. It is the test of choice for diagnosing causes of bleeding, recurrent infections, or tumors.

An outpatient endoscopic study that uses a flexible or rigid cystoscope to directly visualize the lining of the urethra and bladder.
How it works
Under local anesthesia, the cystoscope is inserted through the urethra and the bladder cavity is evaluated. If needed, biopsies can be taken or small foreign bodies removed during the same procedure.
Who it's for
Patients with hematuria, recurrent urinary tract infections, suspected bladder tumor, oncologic follow-up, or urethral stricture.
